I run a small forum for other forum owners. Was wondering if it would be a good idea to create some kind of landing page for the different categories of my forum. So every page would have a list of recent topics for that category, show some news, a few articles, ... stuff like that. Purpose it to optimize those pages for certain keywords about that topic and to create an "interface" to that category. If visitors from the search engines come to that page, they are probably more likely to find something of their interest and also visit my main site/forum. But do you think this is a good idea to do? I won't use any adwords advertising to send visitors to those pages. They'll all come from the search engines, and perhaps link exchanges from related sites. It's still a work in progress, but here is the first page: http://www.forumaffiliates.net/seo-and-advertising-techniques.php There's 1 thing I'm not so sure about though: Should I leave these pages just in the root (like now), create another subdomain about it (eg seo-and-advertising.forumaffiliates.net) or put them in a sperate folder (eg forumaffiliates.net/seo-and-advertising)?
I think your idea is good, but can you achieve that by vBulletin and phpbb? For the last question, you'd better use subdomains.
I would set the forum on a subdoamin, and make the index on the main addy the place for people to make choices....
Decided to use a subdomain aswell. Also gives me the advantage to check awstats then, and probably also makes it more easy if I decide to add more pages in the future. Didn't think about that before. This is what I've got so far: http://seo-and-advertising-techniques.forumaffiliates.net Not gonna put the main forum in a subdomain though. That's still the main part of the site and would like to keep it that way. Those pages are just "portals" to the different sections of the forum. And I'm using SMF for my forum. Very easy to create such a page with the ssi functions that are available
