Hey guys. I am a fanatic for testing my opt-ins and tweaking my LPs, to an unhealthy degree perhaps however I Ihave found that my opt ins increase substantially when I don't ask for a first name, in other words just the email address. I surmise that people don't like giving out there first names, perhaps its too personal in this medium, however they will give out their emails. A strange one, to be sure but I have split tested this and its true, opt-ins increase. My list is about 50k at the minute so I plan to soley use LPs with only mail opt-ins for the next few weeks and graph my rates against what I would normally expect to see.
Names are only good for when you want to use in your reply emails. I personally would rather have the email than worry about getting the first name.
No, I know that. I am not concerned about not getting a first name, I am just intrigued that my opt-in rates increase like they do when I don't request a first name
I've stopped using first names as well. No one cares if you address them in your broadcast messages so it's a good idea to remove that field. Less information to put in means better opt in rates.
You may be right about getting more subscribers but do not forget that the quality will decrease. The more information required on a form, the more targeted the subscriber is. I don't think people who resist entering their names on a simple subscription form will ever buy something from you.
Thats what I expected to, a corressponding drop in conversions/sales but it seems to be in line with the increase in opt ins, sales have increased. It could be the niches I am in but I am going to hold all other variables constant and test this in more depth
Thanks for the info Linda I may have to give it a try. It is hard to find that right formula that will attract the right subscribers.
I resist putting any personal information into a website but still buy from websites. It's all to do with privacy and security. A lot of websites accidentally reveal personal information (just ask Facebook) - it doesn't matter how careful they say they are about your information, they mess up. The less they know about me, the better.
