Hopefully my thread title got your attention...ITS PRACTICE FOR MY AD COPY!

But thats not why I posted...

I am struggling with developing my first landing page for my first adwords campaign. I want it to ROCK! I want it to CONVERT! And I want it to get me a high quality score. This landing page will DO IT ALL!

Some quick background on the situation, as it is pertinent to my question. I am not new to the web, web design, or "guerilla web marketing" but I am new to PPC. This is a new position at the company I work for, and although I have "autonomy" I keep getting pressure from my old supervisor to do what he thinks would work. Without having done ANYTHING yet, and even implementing a campaign, its hard for me to argue with him as I am far from an expert, but I have more knowledge than he in this realm as Ive been reading up on it.(and i have DP)

My former manager thinks I should lead the landing page "above the fold" with a short paragraph and a graphic. Now I've read that its best to stick with persuasive text for landing pages and some minor graphics.

He wants to display a "services" lifecycle, sort of like a flowchart of how a typical client could progress through a consulting engagement. There are different stages and different services and the whole thing could get pretty complex, which is what concerns me.

    So heres my question:

Do you think I should fight the idea of leading "above the fold" with a graphical flowchart? And if you say no, do you have any "credible proof"?

What would really help is maybe a few examples of what you all would consider AWESOME landing pages. Or very high-conversion rate pages. Or even better a document written by a credible professional stating this is or isnt the way to go.

Maybe I should just go with it, and adjust accordingly. If it doesnt convert I can switch over to only text and hyperlinks above the fold.

Do one like the boss wants, then do one that you think is great, and test which does better.

It takes time and testing different things to get the page right and converting.

Your results will vary depending on the content and the product/service being advertised. Some industries I could think of would convert wickedly with a graphic front and center, others done like that would find the user racing for the back button. So, try and see which is better.

Generally of course, you'll want a quality header/title & lead in above the fold, and then an sub-head interesting enough to distill the reader's emotion and hook them in to read the rest of your copy, at which point they'll hopefully consider anything you throw at them, assuming it's not distracting and is relevant.

As far as high converting pages, I know that Wealthy Affiliate often converts at an amazing rate. And, rightly so :)

Be careful when you make those kind of statements. Google specifically tell you that you must back the claim that you are the best, etc...

Awesome thanks guys. I plan to use "award-winning" in my ad copy. Not "best". And I can back up award winning.

Question: How do I "back it up". Does this mean including a blurb about it on the landing page, or will a google rep expect to see some kind of proof? We have won several Microsoft Partner awards in the NY/NJ district.
