I have heard that having a landing page is a great way to get the most and best out of Google's AdWords. But not exactly sure what a Landing page should have or what it looks like. Does anyone have any good examples? Say ones that works well with Google's AdWords? I would really appreciate the help thanks. :)

Ohhh I have also heard that using a blog for a landing page is good is this true?

A landing page is simply a way of "funnelling" your visitor or concentrating their activity.

For example if your ad was triggered by the keyword "fitness" then your landing page better cover that topic! No point sending them to a landing page about gardening.

Of course there are certain methods and styles people use to develop their landing pages but in my opinion less is more. Get straight to the point, no fluff so they say!

I am sure others will have more useful info for you.

Can anyone show me a example of what an successful landing page looks like? I know Google dose not like a site that has a lot of flash presentation, low word count, AdSense, or Yahoo's advertisements. But other then that I am not sure what to make it look like and how to set it up and such. An example that I can look at would help me greatly I am a very visual learning oriented person so just written instructions don't work that well by itself.

Keep in mind I'm not by any means an expert, but here's my take on landing pages:

You use a landing page with Google AdWords because they only show one ad per domain. So if you're an affiliate for example.com, and someone already has an ad that points directly to example.com, your ad won't show unless it points somewhere else.

A landing page should reinforce the customer's desire to have whatever it is you want them to buy, but not be obnoxious about it. Remember that if you're doing affiliate sales, they'll go from your landing page to the sales site. If they see the same sales pitch all over again, they'll probably get tired of it.

I don't have any examples of successful landing pages, unfortunately. Hopefully someone else will post some links.

First, if you are looking for some general and priliminary info on landing pages you should check here.

    http://www.PayPerClickReference.com/CreatingALandingPage

As for your example request, here's one I ran across recently. I did a search for "investment newsletter" and several pay per click ads appear. It's a competitive keyword. Here's the ad I clicked which is written pretty well.

    Investment Newsletter
    Hulbert Investment Newsletter
    Free 30-day trial & 3 free bonuses
    www.marketwatch.com

Here's the landing page for the ad.

    http://www3.marketwatch.com/Store/products/hulbert_interactive_30_day.aspx

Here are the characteristics you should take note of.

    - The converstion action is up front and obvious. The visitor doesn't have to hunt for it.
    - Not a lot of choices. The vistior is not presented with a lot of avenues to explore. The advertiser went the extra step to remove the site navigation so they don't wander off. It's all about the conversion.
    - The page reassures the visitor it is directly related to the pay per click ad's keyword. I think the page should include more instances of "investment newsletter" but it's pretty good.
    - Even if the user scrolls to the bottom, they can't miss the next step which is the PPC advertiser's conversion.

I hope this helps, but remember it is going to be a little different because your product/service isn't the same.

That's an excellent example of a landing page! I've seen quite a few sales letter type pages that are far too long, and you have to scroll to the bottom just to get to the spot to spend money.

I've bookmarked that one as a guide for my own.

Landing pages should also have a way to capture a visitors email address, for the purpose of sending follow-up emails, upgrade offers, special offers and so forth.

Google frowns on that so it really would not be a good idea.

Adwords policy prohibits pop-ups on the landing pages. But there are plenty of landing pages where you can see a separate window popping up. This window scrolls down or slides over while you are viewing a page.

Are these pop-ups or is it something else? Why won't google disapprove such landing pages?

Personally, I have never tried to slip a pop-up window in a landing page so I haven't tested it. However, I would imagine that the pop-up you describe is in violation of Google's policy. They just haven't caught them yet. I see misuse and misrepresentation of Google AdSense ads and think it's only a matter of time before they are caught as well.

Google changed their rules yet again to try and improve the search relevance and overall quality of their sponsored ads being shown in the Google Search. The purpose of landing page is to let you advertise the same products as other internet marketers who are using Adwords.Your landing page title, description should be relevent to what you are promoting Your keyword density on landing page should be high.To sum things up, a landing page don't need to be complicated. What you really need is to put a form to capture your customers' email and lead them to the sales page.If your landing page title, description and relevency to what you are promoting is good, you can definately get the best out of adword. Lower CPC, higher ranking.
