Ok. So I just made a landing page for my website. Let me know what you think. Getting ready to start my PPC campaign. http://www.SeniorLivingCleveland.com Please rate 1-10 and what I can do to improve. Thanks in Advance!
it will be a 3 or 4; you need to add more pages , possibly a blog; more articles, privacy page, contact page, sitemap, etc. You need to make it a complete site for google to give you a 7 or 8
well mate i would get a pro onto it as i am only a novice but about 10 or so pages of content an about tag and page contact us privacy policy / terms site map resources pages and links articles / bogs if possible that are updated theres a start, currently its ore a short form cpa offer type form and would last a nono second on googles quality score system but please get a pro to advise you.
Ok. If you under the main box in the left and right corner there is a link to my blog and a link to the confidentiality agreement. Can I put the "about" page in the blog? With the local phone number do I need a contact us page? site map is coming. Thanks so much guys. I appreciate your generosity.
I would also check googlrs policy on auto play video / music on a land page as this could also be a factor, you may need a simple clean skin land page then a nice link to your short form / video or at least non auto play with a click here to view video option
Hi BoatBoy... I agree with DownUnder. Kill the auto-start video, make it user-initiated. You need something that addresses the service. Why use your tool? Do you vet the places that appear in the search results? Call out anything like that which builds trust and positions your service as the best way to start the search for senior living. There's nothing on there right now that helps your user feel that way, and you're asking for their phone number right off the bat. Give the person the "why" to go forward. It's good to have the call to action front and center, but it won't work if people don't see enough evidence on the page to do anything with it. Hope that helps
I'd be willing to bet you'd be slapped with a 1/10 straight away. Landing your users on nothing but a user details form before they can get any content is pretty much 100% sure to get slapped. Why do you need to collect user details on the first page?
JHardy, I've never seen anyone get slapped for having a form on the landing page with little content. (Maybe they should, though...?) That's standard for a lot of places that get leads, like car insurance places, etc. Lots of campaigns do that, and it doesn't violate any Google rules. It will, however, get you slapped by customer attention I certainly wouldn't give my details to anyone unless I knew why I was doing it and what I was getting into!
thanks! do you feel the three things she states in the video aren't descriptive enough? should i put more benefits in there?
Hey BoatBoy! I think you need to treat the page like people might not watch the video. A lot of people won't, so reiterate the main points she makes in writing, because people will scan the page for the "why" of your service. Also, do some searches on the key terms you're bidding on, and click through to check out the landing pages your competition is using. (Don't click excessively, of course!) They may be using templates that they've tested and are working well. You'll usually see patterns of structure or info shared that are common, which can give you a cue as to what's working for others.
I've seen this happen loads of times - although it's a combination of placement, level of content on the site etc. Sites are obviously fine to have forms on their site, but I REALLY wouldn't advise them for the landing page - remember that in the first instance it'll be an automatic bot that decides your landing page QS, and it has to decide if you site is just doing this for data collection - why does your site require their data? A piece of the guidelines from Google indicating this: "Data collection sites that offer free gifts, subscription services etc., in order to collect private information" Notice the etc - you don't have to be offering free gifts or subscriptions, you could be offering information (i.e. your site), but they have to fill in their details to get to it. Also try checking out the official adwords support forum: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/AdWords - loads of instances of this happening As Clicking Chick says though, even if your landing page isn't slapped by google (and I'm fairly sure it will in the first instance, at least unless you maybe get past it with a manual review), your users will definitely slap it. They land on your site and the first thing they're hit with is a form asking for their details - once again though, WHY do you need their details to search your site? Why not let them search a bit first and then ask fore the details at the last minut - bait the hook a bit first and you'll find you get a lot more bites
Thanks for the great advice. Below the form are actually links to my blog, about us, contact us, and confidentiality agreement. Should I add more?
JHardy, Thanks for the info! I've never encountered that...interesting, definitely will keep my eyes peeled on future client accounts. Thanks
