Landing Page case studies

    Everyone knows, its conventional wisdom, a forgone conclusion that online marketers should link customers as close to the point of purchase if we want to drive sales... right? Believe it or not, I find myself having to convince some people of this.

    Does anyone know of any articles, case studies, or research that supports this belief? I need some 3rd party, vetted documentation that explains how sending customers as close to the point of purchase is most effective.

    For example:
    - The product's page, not the higher product category for a specific ad
    - The Store and not the general website for general promotions
