Landing/Doorway Pages - Good or Bad?

    What do you think of doorway pages?
    I'm tempted to use one for a new website, but I don't like them.

    So what do you think of them from a users point of view, and from a webmasters... have you implemented one recently? How have your results changed?

    BMW.com got banned from the google index for a couple of days as they were accused of doorway pages.
