Landed a nice domain name, but not sure if I can use it

I recently landed a nice domain name, but I'm not sure if I can use it. The name is a commonly used word, so it's not a name of a company or anything.

For example, let's say the word was "audiophile" and there's a blog hosted with Blogspot called "Audiophile," with a URL of audiophile.blogspot.com. Would it be safe for me to move forward with developing a site for this domain? From what I can tell via the Wayback Machine http://www.archive.org this domain was developed before, but the former site(s) no longer exist. BTW, I checked US PTO as well, and there's no trademark for this word.

I would have thought so, if the blogger was that bothered they would have registered the domain.

No trademark should be OK. As in the ad, just do it.
