    Hey,
did anyone think about this sentence,
when we call "ladies and gentlemen",
    before our speech.
Is not it a prove that ladies can understand better than men,or something else.

In polite society it was considered proper to address ladies first as in Ladies before Gentlemen.

It might be a reason that ladies might get some more time to get listened than men...
Just kidding.. it is some general manners in public speaking..:) ;)

It is said when the speech holder is approaching or addressing, talking to the '' Ladies and Gentleman '' ( boys and girls ) in the room...
At least that's what I think it means - Lol

The real answer to the phrase "Ladies and Gentlemen.." comes from older times when it was common courtesy and etiquette for the gentleman to open doors and pull out chairs for the lady.

It has never really changed. However, society is not as polite now as it used to be, except on formal occasions.
