Lack of English Writers on DP?

Discussion in 'Copywriting' started by TREYC, Jun 18, 2014.

Why does it seem like every thread that has clients seeking writers get bombarded by non-English writers?

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of foreign writers who do a fantastic job (although they are usually rare), but it seems like the abundance of "$3/500 word article sir please accept my PM" posts are getting pretty ridiculous.

What do you think? Is the content creation section on DP getting filled up with junk?

    Food for thought I suppose.

Since $3 is almost 200 rupees in India, and India's main source of DP's traffic, it's inevitable.

Not only the content creation section, but all sections. Completely agree with your point.

Competition is tough here and people are often charging $3/500 or less, for articles (I have no idea about the standards though). My guess is budding HQ writers are suffering most, as a result of this.

It called the Internet. You can't exactly build a dang fence around the forums.

Because they are the only ones willing to work for $2 or $3 an hour.

It's all about economics man. If someone can live off paying $3/article, all the power to them haha.

Whether or not the quality of said article is worth even two pennies is another story.

I'm sure nobody was implying that, I just don't get why people who can barely put a sentence together are trying to write articles!

When you're dead, you don't know that you're dead, but people around you do. Its the same thing with article writing. Some people don't have the basic ideas about sentence construction or grammar for that matter. However, they are not aware of this. Others have to point it out to them. It's just a view though, no personal offence intended.

200 Rupees for a 500 words article is in fact a low price even according to Indian standards, in any case for a person who delivers good quality, is serious about writing and making money by it.
Also, India is not the top source of traffic for DP. Check this post out - https://forums.digitalpoint.com/posts/18980744/.

Sort of like --- when you're being xenophobic, you don't know that you are, but people around you do? I say if people want to learn and write English good for them. If they're bad at it -- its less competition for us fluent speakers/writers. We would hope native Spanish, Arabic, etc. speakers have the same attitudes towards us.

The answer is simple. Because there are folks who will hire them, despite their lack of ability, because they offer the right price per word.

Trying to educate the buyers is pretty much a waste of time. You might get a handful to see the light but most won't. The only thing that will put an end to it is for Google to truly devalue sites with such gibberish on them. Until then, the $2 or even 50cent article marketplace will continue to thrive.

I agree with you on most parts, save for the reference to xenophobia.

Never underestimate your fellow human being's willingness to go for the cheapest thing possible even when it flies in the face of common sense. You get what you pay for. Many clients are predatory. They scour the web looking for clients who need writers and then try to hire good writers for pennies on the dollar. Some can't help it as they're part of criminal organizations and they have a gun to their heads. DP doesn't help to clean these people out, it's up to us. Believe you me, I've seen it all. That's why you have to charge a good basic rate to shun off the middleman/predatory brokers.

it's all about competition and since it's a world competition you can find any kind of proposals and rates. Anyway, there are many guys from India that are good so I don't understand all the complains.

I am an Indian writer myself, but I have never compromised with the standard rate come what may. I agree that the competition is tough and the one who offers the lowest bid, wins it 8 out of 10 times. This is basically a case for clients who have just started up an online venture and looking for some bulk content at cheap rates. However, people take time to learn the vitality of quality over quantity, and this sets up an opportunity for the junk fillers to take advantage of.
I was lucky enough to get hold of few clients who are always willing to pay high, provided the content is engaging and worth giving a read. You may not discover them often on the "Buy,Sell,Trade" page, since they directly contact writers from the sales page, as in my case. Obviously, you need to have some sort of positive feedback behind you, in order to strengthen the proposal.

Well, i think if you have the money getting an English writer won't be a problem.

Heading over to fiverr and making a search would bring up lots of writers.

Reading their gig description would tell you if they are really U.S/U.K or English writer
and ofcourse they charge more than $5 gig for 250 words, TAT may be poor but
it's a good way to go too.

Th biggest problem (IMHO) is that there are too many clients who want to make money from their sites but don't want to pay to achieve that. Of course it is obvious that they want to make money (and the more the better) and keeping expenses low will increase profits. What many clients fail to realize is that if they pay a bit more in the first place then their profit would increase even more.
Educating clients is something that we just won't succeed in doing, they have to find out the hard way for themselves. Until them we decent writers will just have to keep in typing for whatever we can get, just to get by.
It is a shame that there is no Fair Trade scheme for Freelancers!

The sites with the hack writers are going to drop off Google soon. Google's algorithm set of Panda and PayDay Loan software is re-arranging Google as we speak. When both of these algorithm software get in sync you're going to see sites with crap content drop off like flies and force the use of higher quality writing, art, etc..
