Dear members, If the governments can not educate the grass root population on environmental issues, how far do you think that Kyoto protocol could be useful? Sure it helps regulate statistics but if we as citizens do not take steps at an individual level, do you believe these "protocols" will achieve goals long term? Feel free to share your views Alistair
These "protocols" will not achieve any long term goals even if tightly kept by all nations. What good will it do if humanity puts trillions of $$$ in order reduce emissions by 10% or 20% in 10 years, but the overall human population doubles in size (+100%) at the same time? to fight global warming (if indeed a result of human actions - not 100% sure), we have only two options: 1) you invest the trillions of $$$ in research instead of media campaigns, looking for greener sources of energy, most importantly Fusion power 2) you nuke china and india
One thing I do not want is my "government" educating me. I like being able to make up my own mind, make my own decisions and follow my own course.
Yes but what about those countries with low literacy rate? People in many countries do not get to receive even the minimum education that we Americans or Europeans take for granted! Any suggestions on how those people could be "informed"?
Informed about what? How to make the planet more green. They, like I could likely give a fuck. They are probably more concerned with where their next meal is coming from. Where they will sleep. How they will take care of their children. Lets stop coddling these neo-hippies on the East and Left Coast and start tackling real problems like energy, world hunger and rising costs of goods and services. The only people that give two shits about this stuff smoke weed and jack off all day to pictures of Hugo Chavez and Keith Olberman.
You're right and it's unfortunate! However, I am not a big fan of those two you mentioned above and I never smoked nor did I ever do drugs. It's probably hard to educate people on why and how to "go green" but it's possible to make them aware of something that would eventually be harmful to them(...) It all depends on the approach undertaken in creating awareness...
