One way to identify high converting kw's to seo site with is to do a adwords campaign to identify them which can be a very costly task that I cannot afford at this moment :(

    Objective:

I wish to do some kw research to uncover the high converting kw's for my target market, so i can seo site with them.

    Questions:

    1) What is the alternative to identify / research high converting kw's to seo a site with.......... without the setting up a costly adwords campaign to identify these high converting kw's.

    2) Are there any new methodologies, tools, best practices to seo a site with high converting kw's without running a ppc campaign

Why would you need a ppc campaign to find high converting KW's? Use google's kw tool put your main keyword tool and find some good looking cousin keywords to use. Figure out what people are looking for your product or niche. This should give you an idea of the "commercial intent" of a keyword. Do a search for commercial intent so you can figure out what stage of buying a customer is in and that will tell you what is a good converting type of term. The more specific the better it converts. A person looking for a deal is looking for the "cheapest price on..." or for a specific product "River Run Tube Float 53" that person is looking to buy. Don't get wrapped up in PPC that's a big boy game but if you want to see what the big boys are bidding on check out keywordspy to see how many ads are running for a keyword.
