    Maybe I didn't say that in a very clear way.

    South Korea is about 80% mountains. This puts people into huge population clusters, because there's not that much land that can be developed for housing (although they're doing land reclamation projects to make new land from the ocean). Everyone is concentrated into large apartments. So, since everyone is packed in tightly, it's easier to wire the population for broadband in the home than in countries that are more sparsely populated.

    This extremely high concentration of internet users and searchers like Naver for whatever reason.

    I wasn't exactly trying to establish a causal link between mountains and search engines (haha), but I just mean . . . The fact that it's one of if not the most broadband wired societies in the world probably does have a causal relationship to the lack of usable land, and the sheer numbers of searchers will make whichever Korean search engine is the most popular be one of the bigger ones in the world.
