How can kontera claim that Bing traffic is more profitable than Google traffic? I've noticed that my websites and pages which rank highly in Google SERPs rank similarly in Bing but that (Bing) produces next to no traffic from. I suspect that Kontera's claim is very weak. What do you think?
Thanks for adding such quality, insightful comments NOT. The art of debate is truly alive NOT. If anyone else wishes to contribute similar comments please do NOT bother. If however anyone would like to extend the courtesy of actually reading the thread post your comments would be most welcome. Essentially this is a discussion of Google versus Bing.
I have been able to secure a $4.5 eCPM deal with Kontera on a specific site, otherwise they didn't match infolinks for pure CPC payment. As for bing users, it can be explained because bing users would be internet explorer users who didn't change their browsers and didn't change the default search engine. So this technically challenged audience clicks more on ads, nothing new here. They say that traffic from Bing is more profitable than from Google, but proportionally only. Of course traffic from Google is more profitable than from Bing because it is so much massively more numerous!
Hi Twilight Vanquisher, My name is Jonathan Cohen and I work at Kontera. Could you please tell where you heard Kontera comment on Bing traffic? I'm not familiar with the claim.
Hi Jonathan, Twilight Vanguisher is his status based on his number of post. His nickname is 1associate You must be new here
In fact it's chitika making that claim: http://chitika.com/research/2009/clickthrough-rate-analysis-bing-vs-google-vs-yahoo/ http://chitika.com/research/2009/update-months-later-bing-users-still-ad-crazy/ I'm sure it's true, for the reasons I stated above. It converts better, sure, but the traffic is way way less and the Bing audience is not particularly suited for technical topics. That's why they convert on general topics, because non-technical people tend to click more than web-savvy people. The fact that in their analysis, AOL USERS CONVERT EVEN BETTER, PROVES MY POINT!
Thanks for the clarification Monita - I still haven't had my morning coffee yet, so I guess my eyes weren't working so well.
Checked with the person who talked about this and he said it could have been Chitika but doesn't remember much about anything really...
