My website lost all traffic from google today. When i searched Google for "sitename" it doesn’t show my site anywhere but when i search for "sitename.com" it shows up. The "site:sitename" search reveals 3k pages of my site are indexed but lists only 20 of them rest all have end in duplicates. The last listing of my site in google has my homepage indexed but with junk code after the "/" like so http://www.site.com/&cid=1124121000&ei=Rk1QR-GdEZmmoAOd9YGpCl/ The "&cid=1124121000&ei=Rk1QR-GdEZmmoAOd9YGpCl/" code is formed by kontera ads which my site runs. I believe my homepage indexed with the junk code has caused my sites rank drop. Maybe google sees my homepage as duplicate content due to my homepage being accessible by two urls http://www.site.com/ and http://www.site.com/&cid=1124121000&ei=Rk1QR-GdEZmmoAOd9YGpCl/ . I am not certain if this is the exact cause of my sites doom but I am just my theory out here for the SEO experts on DP analyze. I would like to know if there is a way I can show a 404 to pages with junk code “/&cid=1124121000&ei=Rk1QR-GdEZmmoAOd9YGpCl/â€at the end after the backslash via htaccess. Thanx in advance!
I'm not sure if it will help, but on Google Webmasters, you can list the pages you would not like indexed. So, perhaps you may want to add that particular page in the list. More importantly, though, can anyone confirm that they encountered a similar decline in SERPs following the implementation of Kontera? I was approved recently, and am truly tempted in copying and pasting that code to get the advertisements running if no one else can support this theory. Any further input by others would be greatly appreciated!
The problem is these "http://www.site.com/&cid=1124121000&ei=Rk1QR-GdEZmmoAOd9YGpCl/" pages redirect to my homepage if i take them out my homepage will be out aswell thus my entire site will be booted out of google.
I don't think google will create problem for you simply because you have signed up with kontera. Just go to the google webmaster guidelines where every thing is discussed in detail. I do not want to repeat it here!
Google does not purposely create this problem. Do you remember how hard of time google had with backslashes in urls? As per my knowledge two pages showing the same content = dup penalty...am I assuming this correctly?
I thought i might give you guys a quick update. For those running kontera who have experinced fall in ranking might want to check their urls listed in google for the above problem. 10 days after redirecting the fake urls to my homepage my listing seems to be back. Please do not blame me if anything goes wrong these are just my experince i cannot say for sure if it would work for you aswell.
It seems that Google had canonical problems with your url. It probably was just a fluke as this is the first time that I've seen someone posting this.
