This is why I never use an important email address when submitting to directories. Just in case.
So they can spam me as much as they want, no problem with me :)

The easy way to do this would be to take a domain you dont use and just use the catch all email.

When you submit to a directory list just use the name as your email address: ex:
(if that is someones directory it is only being used as an example )

Watch the spam emails and see what email they are sent to and you will know who is sending them, atleast that would be actuall proof.

And this is what many savvy webmasters do. Using throw-away email accounts you cannot know where the spam originates.

Ahhhh, you bought it a year ago - ok, but to let you know the previous owner was doing not very nice things. We submitted to Killerdirectory about 3 times in total, 1 email was ISP, and others were throw-away addresses, and we used 3 to be very sure of the spam coming through.

I'm now thinking the previous owner got a warning from Google, panicked and sold up. So they pass the bad reputation to the next poor sod to deal with -

I bet that happens a lot eh

Someone mentioned making a list of spammers - that sounds like good idea :)

But doesn't it worry you though, because it's just so vindictive. I never spammed anyone in my life and I won't go there, as I have morals and spamming is so small and kiddyish.

    Yuck, I hate spammers.

EK, maybe you can make a spammers heaven directory - where you list spammers of all different niches? Lol :)

I used to hate spammers. But I don't care anymore. You can't stop them.
And as you know "it's just a business, nothing personal" :)

Spamming webmasters is same as running AdSense on a directory - it just doesn't work...

Realistically I have no time to maintain something like that - too many things in the pipeline. Maybe a webmaster can do that, providing he gets the information he needs from spam victims.

There's probably a few people out there doing something right now. The tough part is how to entice victims of spam to submit such information to a database. Tough one that.

    :D yes it's a funny old world :D

You keep stating that you know where they are coming from but yet in your original list you had listed innocent sites...some of the sites you list i've submitted my sites to and haven't had any issues of spam from them....
and then you mention that you use throw away accounts, but then you say it's the same one...you just take a few days to submit to another site...
so then how can you know for sure where the spam is coming from if you use the same email address each time?

and yes i can tell you from 10 years of experience yahoo email accounts are notorious for spam....
gotta love the old princess from Persia or wealth former military official from China....

lmfao...oh yes as a woman i'm so thankful for my male enhancements and girl on girl action

another thing to consider is that quite possibly they didn't directly give your info away...some directories list the email address of the submitter instead of offering a contact means throught their own site to the submitter and thus indirectly they have allowed bots to search their site and grab your info
this is still a problem but one that could be fixed

and then yes there are those that sell information...you must also make sure to read the submit rules or any tos...i've seen a lot of directories that if you weren't paying attention had a small notice somewhere or check box that states that you allowed them to place you onto a mailing list....

Dude, there's no possible way that you can prove anything using one email address. To have real proof you would have to use a different email for each directory.

As to the different emails with killer, there's very few here that run only one directory. Just like you don't want to mess around with multiple email accounts, perhaps they don't either?

I had hoped that your spammer list was legitimate - should have known it was just a bunch of hot air.

No, not really. I've noticed spam coming in on guessed email addresses. So if your unique email for each directory does not exceed 6 characters, or it's a common word , then you have no evidence of anything. You need something like for each address so you can be more sure. If you're using something like , , then your honeypot submissions aren't effective.

My email uses a unique name that nobody would ever guess - so I know for certain exactly where the spam is coming from. eg: I don't use , I use , so there's no mistake.

FYI, somebody with (approx) less than 10 green rep or in the red will translate to giving grey rep if they attempt to leave positive or negative, so threatening others with positive/negative rep won't really do much for their ego;) What's the something else, could be fun??

Aw, Spidey you had to tell him. I knew every time EK red repped me. LOL.

For someone who doesn't care about such things he seems to like throwing reds at people who don't agree with him and taking the cowardly approach of not signing them.

Again, the issue with this list isn't the motives (I'm all for outing these creeps) but the flawed methodology. Even using a unique email is still not definitive without using a different one for each directory being submitted to.

There's a difference between aggressive opt-in and spam. I get a lot of viagra spam, and most of that originates from PC boxes that are rooted and have proxies installed. The best thing to do with spam is report through spamcop.net which sends notices to the ISP's and hosts. The aggressive opt-in stuff normally gets on my nerves after 2 or 3 remove requests that have not been honored. After that, they are open game... But I don't trouble myself with wasting time reporting spam from directory submissions since I use disposable E-mail accounts.
