I would like to point out the irony that people here get so angry about spam from directories but at the same time people openly on this forum advertise and solicit services specifically designed to spam directories. Funny old world aint it.

Thanks for the detailed research. I am a bit suspicious that someone that has 300 negative posts about directories would spend so much time and effort submitting to general directories.

Dave E is the owner of that site plus some others and I don't believe he would deliberatly spam but I also don't get how this one is spam as he is just letting you know he has another site to submit to if you want on top of that the email is from 2006 do you have anything recent

I don't get this, First you state:

"Yep, we aren't even listed with you, sorry about that."

Then you proceed to ramble on about a cut and paste error.

Then you close the statement with this:

"Out of interest, which directory is yours. I want to check the emails we have from the above directories."

    Am I missing something here?

This thread should have never been started.

Ok, I submitted to Killer directory, but not to SEO World - yet we get an email from them. So right away, we have been added to another email list for sure, come on swedal, you know how this works right......

So that's an extra list I'm on, that undoubtedly led to more crap in our inboxes from gambling, porn and drug sites/email - you know the kind of thing.

Now I know what directories we are with, and I have the confirmation mails to all of them. So these have my email address and are trading it or selling it or whatever - and I know I gave that address to these directories. You know, how much evidence do you want.

Just got some spam right now:

Texas?? wtf - yeah like hell did I apply for Insurance, and from Texas  lol.

I know this is coming from the directories that got my email on sign up. I only use my Yahoo email when submitting to directories, so any spam with my Yahoo email, then I know it's one of the directories that is involved, directly or indirectly. That's all I need to know.

If members don't believe me, which they obviously don't, then they shouldn't make silly comments is my advice. Everyone knows this goes on big time, ok - so let's not pretend that this doesn't exist.

    Nice share. :)

It would be nice to collectively add to this list, but without any sort of check it could be abused. It's safe to say any and all iEntry directories belong on this list.

Submitters should use some common sense though. Use a disposable E-mail account when submitting...

ok you say you use your yahoo email just to submit to directories but I can tell you from experience when it comes to yahoo email addresses you will get spam as I have one that is only known to family members but you should see the spam I get in it

    * also not sure if your talking about the site in your sig but Seo World is a member here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=79837 so could he have possibly gotten your email from here

We got a mysterious confirmation mail from a directory, (we aren't even listed in) - and a member here claims he owns one of the directories in the list I posted.

So I'm in the process of matching his email to the directory he owns. If we aren't listed, what is he doing with my email address? How did he get it then - interesting......

Yup, iEntry is a major spammer for sure. I get those too.

100% sure the list is correct.

ops, so your not 100% sure. (many)

Did you use a new email address for each directory or not?

Use edit button instead of double posting all the time.

Na no way. I use only a throw-away Yahoo address and it's not in my profile or on my website. I know exactly how my email was extracted, I know, I know :)

I knew I'd get spam, can't avoid it if I'm honest, but it's the practise of selling contact info that gets me.

I don't as I want all the crap spam to go into one email account. It's easier to manage that way.

well I agree with you there if the site is selling your email then you should be mad and can press charges if you know exactly which one but to say all in the list are spammers thats just not right

Too bad I did not save the URL's. I recently removed 80+ iEntry directories from my list. And I'm sure there are still some I have not found yet....

If I were selling them I would have only made about 2 pence, thankyou for mentioning my killerdirectory.com, maybe someone will submit to it now, so that I can sell their identity on ebay for 5 grand.

BTW: I bought this directory about a year ago and have done very little with it. I have never spammed and never will spam.

If someone is spamming the directory up it might explain why the Google rankings suck ass, I might try a reinstatement LOL (I can just see the web-spam engineers actually wetting themselves with laughter now - Not only is it a dp member owned, phpld, paid, general directory, its a dp member owned, phpld, paid, general directory that spams).

I became fairly sure that I had inherited some sort of penalty when I placed it on a UK server, it ranks, but it just ranks crap (not even no.1 for killer web directory, I am a good SEO but I cannot work against penalties like that), considering it has quite a few links and stuff.

    Thanks Jminscoe
