Due to the insane amount of spam from directory submissions to us, I thought members might like to know the directories responsible for this - and thus avoid them.

    DiverseList.com
    theseoworld.com
    maxlinks.org
    quickfinder.us
    addurllisting.com
    schwoit directory.com
    Properdirectory
    AListDirectory.com
    cheapdirectory.net
    oodir.com
    killerdirectory.com
    Pixelin.org
    CR8z.com
    myfilehut.com
    Scrabblestop.com
    zoomdir.com
    putmyfinger.co.uk
    discussdirectory.com
    xtlinks.com
    the-free-directory.co.uk
    cliky.com
    cyborginfo.com
    findfull.com
    sootledirectory
    iozoo.com
    vendora.com
    bizseo.com
    thesorter.com
    yawd.co.uk
    search-o-rama
    searchWarp.com
    Pedsters-planet.co.uk

These 100% sell contact details obtained from their directories. We know this from submitting to them 3 times. These submissions resulted in over 1000 spam emails every month.

    Beware.

Thank you for the warning, I will be sure to make sure I don't use any of these websites when submitting to directories.

Excuse me? I own one of those directories and would like to know the basis for this stupid list?

Where do your facts come from please?

I DO NOT SELL EMAIL ADDRESSES. I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO.

    You are a liar.

just my 2 cents but Posting a list like that without any foundation is libel and I would certainly take you to court if I found any of my sites listed here, and would you care to give example of the type emails you recieve

Yep, we aren't even listed with you, sorry about that. But that list contains many spammers, want to know how I know this, well it's quite easy to figure out, see what you do is you get an email address, then submit to each one individually (but not to any other directories yet), then because only 1 directory is submitted to at a time, the spam must come from the ones submitted to. Just makes it easy to track where the spam is coming from.

Either our details were sold on to other companies or we got spam directly from those directories.

Again, sorry about my cut and paste error.

Out of interest, which directory is yours. I want to check the emails we have from the above directories. Appreciate it :)

    regards

    EK

While I too have received spam from submissions to a couple of those directories, I wouldn't post information such as this without showing hard evidence that they are to blame. Regardless if you do have proof, you are still wide open to claims of libel. I'd expect you'll get even more grief from all the directory owners you have mentioned, too.

EK: You should be more cautious about where you put your foot.. I don't deny that some directories generate spam and also sell email addresses but before making any such public claims you should do you homework and make sure you don't list any innocent directories.

I hope you realize your mistake. I think you had good intentions of informing your fellow forum members about spammers but it should be done carefully.

yeah, thanks Spider, but we are pretty sure the spam we get is from most of those - we do have the emails as proof so we know spam is coming from that list for sure. And when we track down the culprits, heaven help them.

Even though my company isn't listed with his directory, we know we were as I have the email as proof. We know a lot on that list are known spammers and getting tons of email is nasty.

Usually, i send an email asking to be removed from the directory, but that doesn't always work, and a lot of them insist on taking emails or they won't submit sites. We do now use a fake email address when submitting, but the spam still arrives - can't win really :(

Thanks for the warning Spider, it's appreciated :)

Oh yeah, good intentions only. I just don't like to see spammers getting away with what they do.

    ---------------------------

This one is well known to us. So far 2 companies that spammed us were reported to the proper Government backed authorities, so we do report spammers quite a bit. One company sent us over 75 emails in 2 months, they were sending us third party adverts in their emails which is very illegal, and they got threatened by letter - the matter was cleared up and we never heard from them again.

    What about this then:

Spammer jailed for £1.6m net scam

An internet spammer convicted of running a £1.6m e-mail scam from a bedroom in his father's house has been jailed for six years.

The 23-year-old was also convicted of threatening to destroy or damage property, concealing criminal property and fraudulent trading.

This is disgusting behaviour and is why I hate spammers to death.
