Know your market, build relationships...the rest is elementary

So last week I met up with an old friend of mine who was signalling an SOS because of a change in structure in commission payments at his work.

Basically for the past month he has been stressing because his real estate business is expanding and commission performance and target sales will make or break his employment position within the company.

So after 2.5 hours, I showed him my online strategy and what I have been building up since starting IM, and needless to say, he was like a kid in a candy store. A whole new way of thinking opened up for him (he is pretty smart business wise), just not in the way us internet marketers think.

I was surprised he had not built a solid list, and had never kept a 'relationship' with old and prospective clients. The phone was his go-to method.

I implemented a landing page with video and property listings so when his database of clients subscribe they will be brought to that. He tells me already this week his phone has been ringing non-stop [IMG]

It's so true, we often get caught up with all the hype and newest methods in IM but core research in knowing your market and having a strategy in whatever online/offline business you have is often the most crucial part in success.

(/end of my feel good story hehe)

It does surprise me that he didn't build a list. Most sales people live and die by their lists. Both my brother and father-in-law did Real Estate for a while and they always stayed in touch with their customers and potential customers.

Well it wasn't so much that he didn't build a list altogether, he would just write down the email and details of the person who called/emailed each week and 'followed up' up to a month after. Then after that, they would be filed....:(

The whole concept of building an online relationship I guess is what opened up new ideas for him

I couldn't agree more. When you engulf yourself into your market, and actually become the consumer, you learn so much leading to better campaigns, and overall better business.

Am sure he's seeing the benefits of automating some of the tasks. Online tools can bring a ton of benefits if one understands and gets to use them properly. I bet he'll be able to not only meet but exceed those targets!

Congratulations for your generosity and insights.
