Whats best in linux platform Kloxo or Webmin I heard for security issues people dont like Kloxo ( previously Lxadmin ) What do u prefer and why
kloxo is lightweight, easy to install and user friendly (got native lighttpd support too which is great) when i don't need it i'll just turn in off via ssh, no security risks. webmin+virtualmin is also good but consume bigger RAM compared to kloxo easy to install but not really user friendly, have to configure the modules and all. all in all i prefer kloxo.
Kloxo is much more safer, HyperVM on the other hand ( makers of Kloxo/LXadmin) had alot of problems last year, wether or not they are solved i don't know, but Kloxo is safe IMO, Ive used it for about 2-3 yrs now. and Ive never had an attack on my servers. Ive noticed it DOES have bugs. *(Email settings, bandwidth monitoring.couple others. ) but all in all .its great. Ive used Webmin., but not virtualmin, and i havnt seen much support with Billing softare for it, hence i use Kloxo.
Kloxo is better for hosting, whereas webmin is better for general server management. It's very hard to find a good open source control panel. I personally use DirectAdmin (I get lifetime licenses for $250 so it's relatively cheap in the long run).
Directadmin is certainly a better alternative. Sure there is a $250 lifetime license fee but it's well worth it. You'll save the money just in the time you save between the free alternatives and DA. Kloxo and Webmin are fine if you have one or two sites and no clients on server. If you want clients then get DA.
Thx for all suggestions but i tried both and both are a bit complicated to me so am using DA now Mods pls close the toipc
Sorry to answer so late, but I feel compelled, since people are talking FUD. Kloxo and Webmin are completely different things. Kloxo is a hosting control panel. Webmin is a system administration panel. Kloxo is safe and stable... just point me to something that isn't rumors, and I'm up for rethinking the statement. The only really good answer here: Use both. Run your hosting with Kloxo, administer your box with webmin (use it to do stuff like brute force detection, ip tables and so on). As long as you don't mess with the services that Kloxo depends on, Webmin works fine as an administration interface for sysadmins.
