In an effort to increase the quality (not quantity) of listings in the KingBloom Directory we have made the decision to close our "FREE" listings.

The directory has grown to over 26,000 listings, and over 1500 categories. We have An Alexa Rank around 19k, PR5, very well indexed among all SE's, etc. For more information on our traffic and rankings, please visit: http://www.kingbloom.com/advertise.php

Listing Pricing is now as follows:

Regular listing - Closed (Approval time 7-10 days)
Basic listing - $2 (Approval time 1-3 days)
Premium listing - $5 (Instantly Approved)
Super Premium listing - $30 (Instantly Approved)

While the Regular listings are currently closed, we will likely open it up from time to time.

We've had great success so far, and have managed to build what we feel is a quality directory in just over a year.

Thank you for your support and consideration over the past 13 months!

mia, why do all entries in my server logs (for several sites) show multiple hits from the kingbloom.com home page and not the category pages where they are listed (or a search result page)? Is kingbloom.com sending out referrer spam to every site listed in the directory?

That is likely the "KingBot". KingBot is a special bot that is propreitary to our KingBloom Directory Script we have been writting. KingBot is designed to keep the directory clean and fresh by making sure your site exists, and is actually still alive.
I wouldn't call it referrer spam, unless you have a better idea for checking if a site is available ;)

You could of course filter out the KingBot, just as you would googlebot, msnbot, etc...

OK. Thanks. I haven't dug into the logs in detail, but your bot sounds reasonable even if a bit aggressive (how often does it need to check a listing? every day?).

I was gonna ask the same thing, thanks for the clarification. Although, wouldn't 1x per month or whatever be more appropriate than 1x per day nearly.

Actually, it checks ever other day.

I can certainly make it not check sites for people that have a problem with this. Ultimately I have found every other day a good way of keeping the directory clean. The whole idea behind the script is to build directories that are not like the other dime a dozen directories. High quality listings, that actually exist.

It checks every other day, not every day. Aggressive would be checking every hour.

Perhaps because of the useless log entries, but again, you can always filter it out. Anyway, we have it set to every other day, which should not be too obnoxious. It keeps the directory clean and legit. It's hard to find a dead link/listing in the KingBloom Directory. I can't say the same of DMOZ, or most any other directory out there. DMOZ does have a way of checking to insure their directory stays fresh (so they have claimed) but I have not seen that to be the case more often than not.
