Japan is facing global condemnation for hunting humpback whales for the first time since it was outlawed in 1963.
Japan claims that the hunt is necessary for scientific research, yet meat from Japan's scientific catch is sold commercially, but Japanese officials deny that profits are a goal. What kind of research are they doing that requires the whale to be dead..

I have to say Japan really goes too far sometimes, it's a great country but to generalize - they have very little respect for organic life besides humans. They have some of the worst spectacles of animal abuse, and often times purely for entertainment. I had the misfortune of witnessing something that today still horrifies me.

i guess the lack of real nips on the net and the abuse of Sony telling everyone to STFU is just normal online so we need to look away and pretend it don't happen, pity Sony cant pretend piracy don't happen outside the 3 mile limit and claim it's an abuse of international law, as they do

Well... depending on what part of the whale they are testing, it is possible.

Of course Japan has been known to hunt endangered (notably aquatic) species and sell them as delicacies.
