6 months after the penalty I'm wondering if it's right for Google to kill an entire site, just because there is a web directory on it. Read more ... http://sphinn.com/story/36173
Its not specific to directories though so its no suprise if the directory is attached to a site. People keep talking of directory penalties, its also blogs and lots of other various sites that have nothing to do with directories. And penalties existed before the craze that started last year.
My blog still gets 800 to 900 hits daily without Google, people comment, people join the forum. My question is why Google would kill an entire site, just to send a message to DP members.
What you just said i only mentioned some place else yesterday, i get traffic, business etc still on my penalised directory, no pr, it shows that even with a penalty you are still doing fine. Maybe google are kicking themselves in the face, im sure they will never feel the pain though, the whole thing has gone a bit weird, i dont think about it as deeply now, someone recently mentioned divide and conquer, it worked.
Thats why they stay deadly quiet, so that nobody can ever come forward and say "but you told us this" they have the perfect existence, we tell them everything they need, publicly, right here, and in return they say nothing.
No disrespect but i cant believe that people do business on the internet and then look to a guy to answer some questions for them, he dont care about you or your site and if he does remark on one site every now and then its just to show how spineless people can be, ive read some replies in those plces where people are almost begging for help and kissing his backside, they have lost all self respect, its crazy, i cant believe grown men and women act like that. I would punch myself in the head repeatedly until i snap out of it.
have you got a script that automate ping google crawlers to visit the site?if you have this script this is the reason that your blog get penalised. It happen to me and when i deactivate it it start visit my blog again after 15 days but it still not in google index.
I believe sooner than later they will fix the algo. From what I learn on WMW -- G is always tweaking their algo and experimenting. One of my directories just got its PR back-- and I have changed things accordingly what I learnt over WMW. I'll surely let you know what effects my changes gave on my site.
There is nothing for them to fix guys, if by fix you mean tweak, well tweaking is what they will always be doing, they will get better every year. They aint made no mistakes with anything though. Changes resulting in an alteration of a site should be ignored by everyone else too, because all of our directories are not the same, because one person does something and it changed something else, does not mean you should follow that too, why would anyone do that? where is the logic in that? Again no offence but theres no one smart enough on forums to understand what they are doing, experiments with this and that mean jack, for a setup that constantly changes, probably on a daily basis i would say its impossible to conduct a real experiment, thats why you always get results that make no sense and cause more confusion. Ignore anybody who tells you they think they know why something is happening, i once joked that i knew what was happening with pr but i was taking the p**s You know what, your not meant to know, because if you could you could exploit to the fullest, thats not our job, we leave that to google. Go back to basics, drop out of google school because you will never understand it.
I think google is penalizing all sites that have outgoing links, they figure it is likely that at least one of those links is sold or exchanged. Since it seems to only effect the little green bar and nothing else then all they are doing is making themselves appear petty and ineffective. If they ever started taking away SERP because of this then they would be hurting their own search results, their best ad placement (web masters) and also be crossing into the path of anti-trust. My conclusion is if google is really that pathetic then their time in the number one spot is limited and when some new/cool/hot search technology comes up people will flock to it in droves and certainly webmasters will show no loyalty because none was earned by googles actions.
OP…Understood, Google doesn’t listen to the small man though, so seriously, would are you planning to do? Google wouldn’t change anything if they don’t want to, and definitely not by demand, so what’s the purpose? Google wouldn’t change, justifying they hate directories, then I don’t think they did something wrong, (personally). What’s your goal? To let us know… or to bring the attention to Matt, I’d like to remain in on this
umm this is not about directories you have to understand that. They are just the main target and that is because paid directories are the biggest paid links firms.... Sites like John Chow also got penaltised, plogger.org, phpbb ... and so many more I can list ... which were jacked their pr because of paid links
Hmmm, I don't know that google kills sites 'just because' they have a directory on them...that seems unlikely. But IF the directory/site has violated Google guidelines, why WOULDN'T they penalize the whole site? Seems logical to me.
Mike you are totally correct. They do not always penalise the whole site however. There is a bid directory that was promoted quite a lot, placed on the sub folder of a software site. The bid directory sub folder is penalised but not the main site - so it shows google do not always kill an entire site.
Right, I know, but that doesn't invalidate what I said. Interesting. I wonder if it matters if the directory is in a subfolder/domain, or if the directory is the main site. They ARE slightly different situations, or at least, could be.
