There are some people that respond to the question "So, do you two have kids?" by saying "No but we have a dog". That always seems very odd to me having been a dog owner and a parent, kids and pets are extremely different. I usually assume they want to have kids or at least one does and they are compensating for that void by filling it with a pet. So I am generally nice and ask "Oh, what kind?". I must confess if the people are some what irritating to me, I say in my head "Oh my friend Vien had a dog for dinner while he was back in the home country". I really did have a friend named Vien that found it quite normal to eat dog. I think it would be better to just say no we don't have kids. What do you think?
I think people group kids and dogs together because they both need to be cared for exclusively by them
Haha. I know what you mean tbarr. It strikes me as strange. But then again, to each his/her own, I guess.
I hear you. I think it's ABnormal as well. I'll tell you what really grinds my gears...people who REFER to their dogs as their "babies"....WT? and the last letter will come to me. funny, when people ask us if we have any pets we say no, but we tell them we have a fish P.S. we are not ashamed of our fish
Oh dear. I sometimes say I have a dog and a husband. How many kids is that worth? The answer usually varies between two and six.
I have to confess that I am guilty of giving the dog answer. I don't have kids, but my dogs are the closest thing I have to them. To me they feel like having kids, but I could be wrong because I've never had a child. They seem similar in the fact that I have to feed them, watch them, come home to care for them, play with them, give them affection, etc. Also, I get way more s**t when I say I don't have kids. People look at me like I just turned my head all the way around and spit out pea soup. They think I'm crazy for not having children, like i'm an old spinster lady (i'm 27). Appreciate the fact that I know how to take birth control until I'm not poor and still a kid myself, and I will stop saying my dogs are my kids!
