Keywords to use when submitting to a directory

Just about to release a new much improved version of my site. As of yet I haven't submitted to any directories (maybe 1 or 2 a while back) because I wasn't sure of the keywords etc.

The keywords for a site change over time, how does this influence the keywords that are used when submitting to directories? Do you just re-submit over time?

Most paid directory owners will be understanding that we are in a dynamic work space and yes of course sites change but if you are listed on a quality directory then most edits will in a lot of cases be reviewed favorably
    imho
Regarding free directories well what can one say, they are free so I suspect it is unlikely that they will provide editing services, so re-submit will be applicable

I keep track of what descriptions and link text I submit to directories. That way I can track what words I'm targeting and limit the number of times I use the same description.

When I identify a new target keyword or keyword phrase, I simply change the descriptions/link text and do my new submissions using those terms. That way I continue to maintain whatever success I have with the original target keywords (you must have chased them for some reason) and gain position on the new ones.

Unless you paid to be listed, I would suggest you leave the old ones alone (assuming they are at all still relevant) and simply submit to new sites (this is a never-ending process) using the new.

If, the site has undergone a change significant enough to change where it should be listed in the directories already submitted to, then I would definately notify the directory owners of the change and provide new/modified link text and descriptions. (Some directories will automatically delete your listing if you significantly change your site and don't notify them.)

Thanks guys for some great advice.

It's clear that directory submission should be managed properly if it's to be of benefit. I shall get to work straight away ...

These postings give me reason to take fresh look at being more active in submitting to directories,
and also use an organized, targeted system involving keywords.

As still learning the ropes, thes insights are extremely helpful. Thank you.

I learn something new each time I visit this forum.
