Is there a tool to check how many searches are there on Google for keywords/phrases I specify?

For example, I want to know how many searches was done on Google last month on the words "free dinner". Is there a tool for this?

Not that I know off. The only ways I know are DP (wordtracker) Wordtracker (all engines) and Overture (Yahoo and MSN etc.)

All Google tells you is how many results a keyword gives (Google Suggest) and synonyms (Adwords Sandboxtool) but searches.. No I guess not..?

Not that I know of, but I can supply you with a list of keywords and related keywords showing

    The keywords (upto 200)
    The max bid
    10th Bid,
    number of monthly searches
    Average Clicks per day
    Average CPC

The info is extracted by hand from both google and overture

theres a bit about it in this thread

I hope to have it all available via a website shortly but until then if you want some particular information just PM me.

No, Google does not reveal this information. I saw a tool that gives an "estimate" somewhere but i am pretty sceptical about these estimates :)

A good tool is the Google sandbox. At least you can get an idea about what keyword combinations are most popular - they rank them in popularity order:

That would be just a sweet-sweet perk of working at Google, along with god knows what others publishers like us would give our right testicles for.
