Well for starters it would help to know what you've been doing so far... But if you read this forum you'll find all of the answers you need... As far as SEO is concerned it's VERY common for your site/article/blog to show up one day and then be gone the next. Many people refer to this as the google dance.. Just keep: -Getting Links from relavant sites for your or in relavant terms to your site... -try to get them from different class C IP addresses (as many as possible) I believe the seo book website has a good free tool for this - Use good ON page linking factors as well (keyword Density/Tittle/tags) - Build at a decent rate (not to fast or slow, but a steady pace) - Add content as much as possible and make updates regularly And one day you should see your site back where it was before. Good luck.
Also, if you see your rankings among the top positions one day and a drop in the position the other day it might be possible that you might have been logged in to your Google account and checked the positions. Google tends to show the sites of your preference/priority or the sites that you visit the most while logged in to your account. Apart from that you should continue working on the site and the position will be restored in a few days.
I can see no other reason why your rankings for a target keyword should drop at all except for: 1. You have reached overhead, your allowable link building links inbound to your page for that keyword(s). 2. You haven't done anything to improve your rankings for your target keyword (ie. link building and onpage as well as offpage optimization. Either which, mistake you commit, your rankings will surely fall for any target keyword you are trying to rank for. Remember that you have a competition with your "said" keywords so if you literally do nothing to promote your page to rank for that certain target, chances are, your competition will overthrow you in a few days. No webpage will stay in rankings without the owner doing optimization (link building and onpage SEO). You may have your rankings now without even doing anything but for sure, it will drop when someone else is doing his job, that is, your competitors.
This is definitely common. I have many instances that I am ranked #1 or top 5 and then the next day on page two. This usually happens to newer sites and posts from my experience. Stay persistent and make sure you do your research.
I agree on your suggestion. This should be basic way to do in order to gain back his keyword ranking.
