I have started to move up the rankings with the help of backlinks as i couldn't get a domain with my keywords in that would be easy to remember. I think I currently rank 3rd and 10th in google for the term 'Free Gadgets' which is the main keyword I have built my links for.
@nvdek How many baclinks has it taken you to get there and over what period if you dont mind sharing... would be interesting to know. Nice site by the way
As good as it is to have the keywords in your URL its not as important as having a deasent amount of quality links with the keywords in. As you can have both though why would it even matter you might aswell have keywords in your URL and also good quality links.
All these things have to work in unison but links are the most important. Be sure the anchor text in the links is what you want to rank for. Notice that the top dogs rarely have the keywords in their domain name. They create a word for their name. Content and links determine your rankings. Content includes meta tags.
I am actually trying to use all possible words available on the dictionary in one article. It would give me a larger coverage and scope on my targeting strategy. I don't limit myself on my targeted keyword.
i just done a simple testing on keyword in url, the result return perfect ..... two day ago, i install wordpress for www.penangusedcar.com (geo+keyword), today i rank 15th in google for "penang used car" that return 400k search n i done nothing other then install wp, theme and one coming soon page ..... i think my client will be happy with that domain
Wow..thats interesting ! Although id like to see you do that with a keyword like viagra or ipod. I wonder how long you would stay there if you did nothing? Good luck !
still don't have client doing viagra related business yet ... Actually i just install the wp for my client then i saw this thread, so my conclusion is keyword domain is good but now looking toward keyword subdo main, btw this is my second site with keyword related domain, first is bitching dot asia, it turn out positive too.... now i will plan to create more content, simple back link n try focus on the main keyword first
If you can your keyword in your url, that's great, but if you can't, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I think things like backlinks with your keyword in the anchor text, page title, and keyword density are more important. If your keyword is also in the url, all the better.
someone mentioned earlier in thread that subdomain keywords dont count. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Personally, I think that if you have too many keywords, it will look "fake" and could be detrimental in the long run. But if it's just the root domain and it's one to four words, I think it's fine.
When it comes to Google, I know links are king. Therefore, OMHO, I would say the top 5 in order if importance would be 1)Link count and quality 2)Link anchor text 3)Title tag 4)URL 5)H1 tag Just what I have found to be successful with my clients...
also if you are on top 10... a visitor will click on the domain that has keyword in it, even if nr 10! To the visitor it would seem more relavent...
actually i have another domain did very well too (almost forget abt it).. mx5.asia, i did only SMF installation and tiny portal installation only, it rank front page in two day with "mx5 in asia"," asia mx5",' asian mx5" .... after one month i took down the site (cause client din pay) and it still rank good for "MX5 Asia" after 4 month the site been offline .....
