keywords in URL or not?

I noticed that google really seems to notice when keywords are in the url..

but I hear some SEO experts saying this is not important..

but on one of my sites pages which has mostly keywords about trading and investing you would think the ads that would show up would be about trading and investing right?

well the url had the words "summer doldrums" in it and so then some ads were displayed about kids summer camp...

so should I put keywords in the url or not?

Do you mean the url or the actual page? You should have keywords in both.

Are you talking about AdSense? Then yes, keywords in the URL is a good thing, especially when the content is sparse or if the bot hasn't been to visit yet.

Keywords in URL works good for humans and engines. I wouldn't bother if it was overly difficult to do, but I can't think of one reason not to do it. Google could, I suppose, penalize for 'spammy' URL's. But if they did that they would be penalizing, for example, tons of informative WordPress blog posts, enough reason fir them not to do it, if you ask me.

A url has to be very spammy with extensivly repeated keywords to be considered spam. Read matt cutts blog on the subject. (old post don't know the url)

When you do searches Google bolds some of the words it used to deside to include you in the serps. It will often bold words in the URL, So yes it is good to add keywords to the URL. THe search engines do notice.

I would aim for keywords in the URL. if you don't have control over how people link to you then its good to have the right reputation going to your page. If not, its probably not a huge deal.

Its a better thing to add keywords in your urls, and that's why most of the doorway pages has a long but keyword full urls.

Another thing you can imagine why the url for hilton is www.hilton.com.

Search engine definitely takes a notice, but may be the weightage given is less.

But definitely it would give some more weightage compared to not having it. So it is recommended that you have a at least couple of keywords in your URL related to the page.

The one "top 100 seo factors" page I've seen around also theorizes (because it's all theory really) that your keywords in your url is the #1 factor that goes into SEO.

A good way of writting your url :
if the page is about blue widgets then it is good if the page url is _www.yourdomain.com/blue-widgets.html (or php or anything else, google has no problem with this) .

Keyword(s) in the URL is one of the many factors that determine a site's ranking in the SEs so it's better to have them than nothing at all. But make sure the URL doesn't look spammy.
