Here's a newbie question. Hopefully this makes sense. I understand that having keywords in the domain name has a positive effect on SEO. Does the same hold true for free blog sites such as blogger or wordpress? In other words say I want to make a niche site for big screen tv's (which I don't). Obviously sites like hdtv.com and plasmatvs.com are already taken. But if I create a blog with blogger called plasmatvs.blogspot.com (already taken; not by me), is the benefit of having the keywords in the domain name the same as a regular domain name, somewhat less, minimal, or negated altogether by having it end in blogspot.com?
The domain name has an effect on the SERPS but... if your content is good and you have a lot of juicy backlinks to your free wordpress/blogger blog it can still be better than a normal paid domain name. The backlinks and the interest people have in your site is what counts. But I would suggest you get a domain so you won't have to go through all the hassels from switching from one domain to the other.
