Hey guys. Lets say I want to SEO the keyword "vitamins." Would SE's view qualitydrink.com/vitamins and qualityvitamins.com the same in terms of having the keyword in the domain?
No I doubt it. While the URL link isn't as important as TITLE tags and content, they do weight it. (Some would disagree, but whatever). Google's algorithm would probably weight qualityvitamins.com over qualitydrink.com/vitamins simply because the domain qualityvitamins has the keyword vitamins in it, and therefore making it clear that the entire website is about vitamins. See what I'm saying? Again, the weight difference isn't that big, I'm sure. But that is probably how google views it, or will view it in the future.
I think the weight difference is pretty big, but of course there are many other factors, so it's all a matter of opinion, really.
Yes, I agree, in many cases, the difference can be substantial. I know of a specific case where having the domain name as the exact search phrase helped someone to get to the top of Google search results. But then, we all know those who have been trying to get sites like myspacelayoutsforfreeAndManyOtherKeyWordsPleaseGetMeToTheTop.com to the top of the results
Google has been known to favor keywords in the title more than any other search engine, so in that respect it's good to have them in your domain name. Yahoo & MSN seems to be more about quantity of links & keywords rather than quality but then again SE's change their algorithms so much that people r supposed to get confused every now and then.
Domain name with keywords has some advantages in search engines like MSN. Some sites are high ranked mainly because of the keyword rich domain name.
i tried that, on here Ituloy Angsulong, I rank perfectly on an seo contest for Google's Ituloy Angsulong Result
yep i thought that the further the keyword is from the domain the less se think about it so having the keyword in the domain is better but what about subdomains? we have sub domains with certain keywords that do rather well and others that dont
Assuming that all other factors were equal (i.e. age of domain, number of backlinks, quality of backlinks, page structure, navigation structure, keyword location) then qualityvitamins.com would be higher in the rankings.
not for google case, they can serve the same weight. but for yahoo, its domain keyword matching first.
For me Title tag is very important. However having the targeted keyword in the url is having good effects in se results.
I think it makes big difference why else is it so hard to get some good domain names. Most are taken so you have to come up with a good alternative. Length of registration seems to make difference also.
IMHO - qualityvitamins.com The thing with keywords in the domain name is to use absolute links across the site that way you can really pump up the keyword/s use. Also all inbound links pretty much have to have the keyword in, even if the link is just the url to your home page, you still get the anchor text you want.
In the end if it makes sense to do so.. great.. if you have a company requiring branding considerations, then go that way. Any minor advantage can be made up elsewhere
