keywords in domain names

i've got a question about keywords in domains

I want to improve the search engine rankings of a roofing company - currently with an non-descipt domain name (the roofers name)

If I get, for example, mytownroofing.com, this will rank more highly when people search for 'my town' and 'roofing'

But how can I capitalize on this? If I buy mytownroofing.com and just put an html redirect to the existing domain, will I get any benefit?

Or is there a better way to do this?

    Thanks for any help people!

your question is interesting.i would like to advise u the following things

    1) See if your existing site is old and u r getting more traffic on other keywords than u can add one seo page to your existing site.you will easily get ranking on those pages.if u have post your domain than it will be easier for me to advice.

    2) if u want to make new domain that don't redirect directly but make some content and optimize for your targeted keyword.than put some banner and divert your traffic through that site.this type of domain is called satellite domain.

if possible than post your current domain so i can give u the proper reply.

    all the best

Uh. You're going to want to use a 301 redirect to your new mytownroofing.com domain.

There is some benefit of having keywords in the domain name, yes. However this benefit is mostly contributed when building links (Have the site name as the title in directories).

Just perform a 301 redirect from your old domain to your new one. Google or search how to do this. It's easy.

Don't use a simple HTML redirect.
