Keywords in domain name and then forward?

Does it make any sense from a SEO perspective:

I have a site about my product, www.productname.com
Since the name is unknown to the rest of humanity, I was considering to buy a second domain name www.mykeywords.com and forward this to productname.com

Would this help in the SERPs?

When I do linkbuilding for this site, should the links point to the productname.com or to the mykeywords.com domain?

All you'd be doing is directing those who type the keyworded domain in their browser's address bar to your site.

Is that so? I've read a post (but can't find it anymore) from someone who did a test, just to give it a try. He created a site with his name as domain. Then he bought a domain name with some specific keywords in it and linked it from a few sites, and redirect it to the domain with his name containing the content.

He claimed that this redirected keyword domain scored high in Google pretty soon for the relevant keywords. After some time google figured out the redirect and after that, the domain with his own name scored high for those keywords.

That's how he described it, but I can't manage to find that post nowhere.

I would have to imagine Google has something in place to deal with this tactic otherwise this could be easily abused. I dont see any real value in registering keyword domains in the hopes someone will type them in. If you want to go the keyword in domain route then use them as lead gen sites or blog sites.

That's bull...If you 301 or 302 anything, Google is only going to use the destination content and destination URL...

Otherwise, people would buy 100000000 domain names with keywords and clog the SERP's....it would take away from the USERS expierence, which Google -will die trying- not to do....it won't matter at all, unless you are getting direct traffic to that domain, its not going to help you (or matter for seo)

    EDIT----

IT DOES HELP IF YOU USE YOUR MAIN DOMAIN AS KEYWORD(S)....Not spammy though, but if you have "myproduct.com"...its pretty good deal, Google and other SE's love direct query match domains.
