I've been frequenting many SEO forums online now, and posing a question that many people are asking amongst them, i heard about the waiting game. My website is around 6 months old, and only now, this project is beginning to get around 20 uniques a day, that is search engine targetted for my words. But here is the thing, they are not the words i am optimised for, but multiples and combinations of them, still i am happy. Now the question is this keyword waiting game Can you please share how quickly your keywords kicked in. I am on pages 2 and 3 and at bottom of 1, still working hard to get them pushed up. I heard it can take 9 months to a year, for the website to begin bringing better numbers, though at 6 months, were i am at now, i'm led to believe it begins, which looking at my statistics in analytics, seems to be true. I know i can't expect a 100 uniques tomorrow, if i had only 17-18 today, so when playing the keyword waiting game, is it a gradual climb, or can be like an explosion of traffic for the website owner. Thanks for your inputs, perhaps your own experiences can help me.
I'll be blunt, 20 uniques a day for a 6 month old website isn't very good. The keywords you are targeting are probably just too competitive, instead of letting the 'multiples and combinations' happen randomly, target long tails that have reasonable search volume.
Highly competitive and short-tailed keywords won't help you a lot when it comes to the waiting game. It will only give you less unique visitors a day, and it's a piece of crap. Go for low competitive ones, and mostly comes from long-tailed keywords which may give you a greater chance to generate more unique visitors if optimized correctly.
