Keywords - Choosing them

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by Sp32, Jun 9, 2011.

What should I go for when choosing my keywords? Should I go for things I'd imagine that are being searched for a lot to do with my niche or should I mimic rival companies keywords to try and take some of their business?

I'm not 100% sure what to put and I don't want to spend money to find out I didn't spend it in a optimised way.

EDIT: I'm using the google keyword tool which is providing me with some good help but I'm still unsure to use similar keywords or opposite keywords to my rival businesses

    Thanks.

You have to use the similar main keywords. Because the opposite keyword can harm your ranking. You can play with the Long tail keywords.

Thanks, I'm definitely going to go with long tail keywords as they seem more likely to get me some business.

I suggest to use Google keyword tool it 's far better than any-other technique you should choose exact phrase rather broad filter option, also i agree with using long tail keywords that 's good idea!

Use long tail keywords for sure, but here's something else most people don't use-

    BUYING keywords.

If someone is typing in "lose weight", sure they want to lose weight but that's all they know.

If someone is typing in "truth about abs review", they're thinking about buying Truth About Abs (on Clickbank), so if they find a positive review on your site they'll be a lot more likely to buy.

So maybe 1/10 visitors to your site would buy, instead of just 1/100.

depending on the level of your competitors and the volume of them, there is no harm on choosing the same kws. If your copy ad is better than theirs and your quality score is also higher, you could easily surpass their positions, but if you are in a very competitive niche long tails keywords might be the killer solution for your campaign

Google offers a unique mechanism of advertising where the manufacturer is obliged to pay for every click made by visitors to a web page or blog.

I agree. If you want a quick way to do it, use Market Samurai. It will help you filter out the keywords so you can find those that are worth money, easy to compete for, have good numbers of searches, and good phrase match percentages. I can discuss how to do this by hand too...if you don't want to spring for Market Samurai.
