Check and see for your self how many of the sites on the first page have the keyword in their url or meta tag. Based on this you can check the competition. Incase the first 4 websites on the 1st.page has the keyword in their URL or all the websites on the 1st page, it will be hard to rank.

Another thing you can do is copy paste all the URl of the first page and add them one by one in Majestic SEO and see what their backlink position is.

You can out rank the competitors buying links at the same websites were they are buying links, and you can also create a youtube video from your website and see what will happen.
    Goodluck,

It sounds like your site is indexed but not optimized fully. First of all, you should have your header being the main keyword and have the keyword(s) repeated through out the articles. Second, your backlinks should contain these keywords. Finally, some search engines still accept it when you add your keywords in html on your site.

You might also want to sign up for a google webmaster account and use their tools! That might give you the needed boost.
