Keywords as file extensions

i noticed when i was searching for a term containing "php" that google bolded the file extension .php in the results as well as occurences in the body text

if i used mod_rewrite to set extensions to my keyword, something blatantly not a common extension, would that have any effect on serps?

yes, but you should configure before headers to set your file as the new file type.

i mean, if your file is .php and you 'camouflage' it as .buy for example, you should write that the file its a .php with headers of content.

then redirect all *.php files to *.buy, this should work fine.

Why don't you try it and report back.

It could be the start of the next spam revolution.

Thats a really interesting idea... :)

Although i think its pretty much the same as doing www. mystore .com/viagra/buy/

which is pretty simple to do with php and rewriting...

I agree with dsm56 here, you can already accomplish the same thing with a simple mod_rewrite and not have to worry about certain browsers mishandling the file type.

Then again, if you want every single page of your site to target a specific keyword I guess this would do it...
