Keywords And Page Optimization

    I have studied the Help Center, read the FAQs and searched for similar questions.

    My question(s) involve keywords and how they relate to content/page creation. The extension of this being a possible duplicate content issue.

    I'm in the commercial truck financing business. We finance 18 wheelers. This is all we do. I have over 100 keywords that describe what we do. For example:

    commercial truck financing
    18 wheeler financing
    18 wheeler leasing
    semi truck financing
    semi truck loans

    These are some of the keyword phrases that we want to optimize for. Again, we have over 100 of these. Now, I'm going under the assumption that a single page should only be optimized for one to three keywords.

    I have also read by a respected person in the SEO field that having a separate page for each of your keywords is like having a little salesman out there promoting your business. The more pages you have, the more "salesmen" you have promoting your business.

    So my first question is should I be creating a separate page for each of these keyword phrases?

    Now, since each of these keywords describe the exact same thing would I be creating a duplicate content issue? In other words, the title, meta description, H1 tag, and the specific keyword in the content would be unique but the rest of the text on the page would be the same since it's describing the exact same thing. Does this make sense?

    It's my goal to create as many pages a possible (more salesmen) but I need confirmation I'm okay on two things: individual page creation and the possible duplicate content issue.

    when you place a link with anchor text for a specific keyword that should go to the same page, but on that page you should be optimizing for other keywords as well.

    group your keywords by subjects - ie. all 18 wheeler combinations, then create a page about that subject, so from your examples, a page covering 18 wheeler finance, another for Semis, etc.

    I think the grouping of keywords per page is a good idea. As far as creating your little "sales men" I would do that with articles and also consider making regular blog posts that target the more specific key words. Your blog posts can be in place of your "extra" pages. I personally think a site might be a bit clunky feeling if you have 100 very similar topics just to grab some keyword targeting. Casual blog posts seem more natural with the blog posts linking back to your grouped keyword pages. Maybe it is a subtle difference -- pages vs blog posts, but I seem to always think with a slant toward Wordpress so the difference in uses makes sense.

    Creating different pages for your keywords is a great thing to do, just make sure to group your related keywords, optimized the pages, make good content per pages and start building quality links for those pages.

    Do you use some keyword tools on your site? You can do the site analysis and keyword research. Also, focus about your competing websites for that keywords.

    Single keyword pages are the correct way to go. Too many keywords dilutes the effectiveness of the page, for instance you would not be talking about financing and leasing on the same page, (home page excluded) you would have internal links from one page to another.

    Are the 100 keywords good keywords, for instance are they popular keywords or profitable keywords?
    What is the difference?
    Popular keywords are what everyone is using and you would just get lost in the crowd.
    Profitable keywords are those that are sought after by enough people but do not have so many sites using them.
    This is your supply/demand ratio. The higher the demand and the lower the supply, the better the key word/phrase.

    Don't over populate. Your page should have between 1.5% and 5% density for the one keyword - that includes your h1 heading. I try to stay around 3% so on a 600 word page I will use that keyword/phrase about 18 times, maybe less. Use a lot of synonyms to fill the page but don't let it get out of hand. I write a page then read it out loud. If it doesn't sound right, I change it.

    Write for the reader
    , the SE's will catch on. It is the reader you want to convert.

    The salesperson analogy is a good one and the pages will not be duplicates. No two sales people say the same thing the same way.Your pages will be talking about the same thing but from a different angle.

    For instance,18 wheeler finance includes

    • what is 18 wheeler finance
    • how to finance an 18 wheeler
    • getting 18 wheeler finance
    • 18 wheeler semi truck finance
    • big rig finance
    • 18 wheeler investment
    • investing in an 18 wheeler

    and the list goes on.

    The best way to write content
    is to list the BENEFITS of your product or service. Why would anyone want to invest in an 18 wheeler? The advantages of being your own boss, the open road, long distance haulage etc. etc. etc. I could easily write 100 pages on almost any topic and not repeat myself - and do so often.

    The strategy is this,
    Have one page per service: Leasing, Renting, Financing, After Sales Service
    • Create a contact page for each service - your Action page
    • Create a benefits list for each service - at least ten benefits
    • Write one page per benefit - You can extend that to three pages What is xxx, Why use xxx, how to use xxx
    • Point each page to its relevant Service Page or its Action Page
    • Write articles about each of the benefits and submit them to article directories. Add a lin
    k in the resource box to GO DIRECTLY TO THE RELEVANT WEB PAGE.

    Article directories are an excellent way of getting inbound links. You are guaranteed at least one per article and usually more. I submit the same article to three major article directories (this is NOT duplication in the eyes of Google) I am guaranteed the inbound links to a specific page for the same article. Depending on how interesting your article is, you could end up witha lot of inbound links for no extra work.

    Remember, it doesn't happen over night but it does happen. By the same token, don't go after all the fish in the sea, only your target audience.

    Last but not least, don't get hung up on traffic numbers. You're not interested in high traffic, you're interested in TARGETED traffic. Too much untargeted traffic can actually be detrimental to your website health.
