Keywords and hyphens

I know SEs ignore hyphens when it comes to seperate words. i.e. "online-poker" is the same as "online poker". My question is about single words.. Such as "pl-anet"... Would this be interpreted as "planet" or "pl anet"?

    Hi,

Not sure why you would like to do this? If its a particular name that you want then you will probably land up gettinf what you want but if you only want to trick the Search Engines then i dont think you would benefit much.

They will look at "pl anet" but they will use stem in their algo. so they will look at this for "pl anet" and "planet" but put more weights on "pl anet"

The idea was to place high in SERPs for a single keyword that has about 200,000 - 300,000 OVT. For example. "boy" so if b-oy.com was available to reg, would it help me achieve a high ranking for the term "boy" or would it be giving me a high ranking for "b oy" which is completely useless?

I think SEOBangkok explained the general idea, but I'm still not sure how much benefit it would have if any. Thats basically what I'm looking for. Considering the content of my site is significantly aligned with the general term, would the domain help at all?

Definately not - "B oy" "B-OY" will not rank for "BOY" . TO rank for this keyword you have to have your Meta Tags properly and domain name though matters little but i would like to have a domain name with "boy" rather than "B OY" or "B-OY".

Instead of doing the hyphen think about doing (assuming keyword is store)

    mystore
    thestore
freestore (might have a high OVT depending on the topic so that might be a better target)

I've run into the same problem but if you really work at the SERPs and use of keywords in your site content you can rank high by using that method.

Also its obvious but depending on the keyword look at all extensions available (.biz, .us etc) and you might find something is available. With the right SEO and SERP work your extension will win the ranking game although you won't get any type in traffic. I'm winning with some local real estate sites with .info extensions.

    Good luck.
