keywords and competition for SEPRs

Lets say I want to create a site revolving around funny pictures. What should I be looking for when I create the domain name?

For example, 4 words I may use in the name:
geek - 60 million results on google
nerd - 18 million results on google
dork - 6 million results on google
dweeb - 500 thousand results on google

Is this telling me I should use the word 'dweeb' because the 'market' is not as heavily saturated? So I could make the first page on google for the word 'dweeb'. Or is this telling me to use 'geek' and just work as hard as I can to make the top page?

    Thanks for the help!

Personally i would go to overture and see what volume of searches are being done for each term.

Would you want to rank for something that never gets searched no matter what the competition?

I can tell you what I do personally. If your keyword has a search count of about 40k in Google, then you can register a domain with that keyword.

Well, it all depends what keyword you want to aim for. It all depends, but there's a lot of competition in the industry that you're currently looking for, but don't let the competition scare you because you can do it if you put your mind to it!

consider from the number of keywords being searched not by number of results. use the tools people provided up there to look for your best keywords and combine with other keywords to make it look good. ^^

The worst thing you can do is look at the bare numbers of results in Google SERPS - it tells you absolutely nothing about the level of competiton for a keyword or phrase.

Case in point - I'm ranking top 5 on Google for a 2 word phrase that gets over 224 million results. Guess what - I'm not even targeting those words.

Also have a look at allinanchor and allintitle comands at google. That might help you deciding how easy you're going to find it to rank for the keyword/phrase.

Here is what I typically do as a first pass:

    1. search the term in google without quotes
    2. search the term in google with quotes - rough indication how many ares specifically targeting the term.
    3. look at the backlinks for each of the top 10.
