Keyword Tracking

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by FlMarketing, Jul 9, 2009.

Asked this yesterday, and was given an answer I just need some more clarification. User begins search for keyword x, then eventually buys from keyword y. In adwords, it looks like keyword x is very expensive, but we know some of that search ended buying from keyword y (product name). Another user said to put a specific url destination in ad. Forgive my ignorance, but I do not understand what this means. Any gurus out there have a way to accurately track keywords for ROI analysis? Thanks.

im not sure I understand your question completly, but it sounds like your just trying to figure out how to associate a sale(or any action) to the keyword that they came in from? If your using google analytics(you should be using some sort of analytics tool to measure what people are doing on your site, where they're coming in from, etc..), you can autotag your Adwords keywords, which will automatically populate keyword data(impressions, clicks, cost, and ROI) in analytics and tell you what keywords are converting, their associate return on ad spend, etc..Look into Google Analytics if you haven't already. Lots of info on the web on how to set this up.

oh, and just and fyi. In your scenario above(where a user comes to the site from keyword x, leaves, then later returns from keyword y), analytics will give credit to the most recent visit, so keyword y in the example will get the sale, and not keyword x. In analytics, you can set up sales funnels where you can look entry and exit points to your sales funnel. Interesting stuff that give you a nice window into how people are interacting with your site.

I have another question regarding LP.
How can I track which keyword converts at a LP?

Where can I find the codes? I went to Analytics and copy the Sale/ Purchase codes but it was wrong. It will show conversion whenever ppl went to the sale page even if they never purchase. It doesn't reflect the true conversion rate.

So where can I find the codes to insert to LP?

    Thanks!

For each keyword - you can set a destination URL for that specific keyword.. so if your keyword was internet you could put your destination url to yoururl.com?keyword=internet

    check out tracker/prosper202

Yeep, using Google analytic tool to get all he info needed , so u could see what keywords are converting
then set a destination URL for your keyword and abt the confusion of X and Y , it is depends on the most frequent visit . It doesn't matter where it start by any particular keyword I guess .
