Keyword tracker woes

Discussion in 'Keyword Tracker' started by ColinR, Sep 20, 2006.

My keyword tracker now appears not to be working since Monday. All my keywords along with competitors I've been watching have dropped out of the listing. Backlinks now appear not to be updating either. I see a few threads where some have been asked to run it from another site?

Thats probablay what I need to do also?

    Thanks,

Are you using the advanced usage script? And if so, is it still valid/where you put it?

Yes I'm using advanced script and its where its supposed to be however permission denied on file when trying to view. I'll check with my hosting provider seeing if they did anything as I never.

    Thanks.

Yep... a permission denied from the hosting would definitely prevent it from working. :)

Check the permissions of the file... since it's a PHP script, you may need to set it to have execute permissions. May be as simple as that.

From hosting firm quoting "The script was disabled due to the fact that it was running and not ending properly."

My comments: "Can it be re-enabled? Its a clean script or do you want me to move it another one of my smaller sites"

Their response: "Moving it to another site does not solve the problem. Ultimatley there is a problem in the script that is causing it to not properly terminate."

Do you have any ideas Shawn..maybe I drop its amount of keywords to 150 maybe?

PS- Would've been nice to have them give a warning
    Thanks,
    Colin

If it's not ending properly, it's a problem on their end. A PHP script will terminate (wether you want it to or not) when the HTTP request is done, unless you use the register_shutdown_function(), which it doesn't use.

I would ask them why exactly they think it's not ending properly.

they're pissy about it quoting "I've re-enabled the script. If it continues to be a problem the domain will be suspended."

So I'm going to move it to another smaller domain in case it does get suspended and drop some keywords that are not worth checking for anyways.

    Host - 11/14/06 @ 09:36:17 AM CST
The script was disabled by us due to it using excessive system resources. We do not allow this script on our servers based on the fact that we have seen it cause problems many times just as it did here.
    Me - 11/14/06 @ 09:40:00 AM CST
so what is it doing specifically so I can go back to developer if you don't mind my asking?
    Host - 11/14/06 @ 09:53:58 AM CST
It was running for several minutes at a time using large amounts of CPU.

Above is the message's back n forth. Anyone want to provide me a folder on your FTP so I can run this? Give you some backlinks or something. I hate to not use this keyword tool. PM me if you'd like to help
