I just came across this tool that you can download and supposedly use locally: http://douweosinga.com/projects/googlepos There is also a preview there. Not being a programmer I don't know what is Python and which Google API it requires (I understand there are various APIs). However, maybe this tool can be useful for DigitalPoint in updating their keyword tracker?
We should be good to go... the requirements are you need to be running a web server with PHP 5.2.0 or higher on it so you can install the script that is needed. I've done quick/basic testing, and it seems to be okay, but let me know... BTW, also updated for Bing while I was at it.
I don't understand. You signature links to the hosted tool but you speak like we have to download the script and host it ourselves. How do we use the tool?
It's hosted, but it requires a "helper" script to run on your end. Mainly because Yahoo API only allows 1,000 queries per day per IP address. This way the requests for you come from your IP.
Hi Shawn Thanks a mil ... I'm only getting results for Yahoo. (bing and google = 0's all the way). What am I doing wrong?
Did you install the NEW advanced usage script? The old one only worked with Yahoo, so makes me think that might be the case...
Hi, Shawn, Those of us who don't run a server, but just subscribe to a web hosting service (such as Yahoo webhosting), what exactly do need to do? I uploaded a file with your script and entered its url, but I am getting "The request returned the following error: Unexpected result from your server:" message when I try to run the keyword tool. I suppose I need to enter somewhere my new AJAX API key, but I don't see this option in Edit Preferences menu. I'd love to be able to run the tool just for Google position. Thanks, Lzr
Sorry... the only way to get results from any search engine is to use the advanced usage script (no way around it after the changes to the Google API), sorry. You might Google "free PHP hosting" or something. Find one that doesn't alter the script output with ads and you should be good to go. The script itself requires PHP 5.2.0 or higher.
I installed the new advanced script, but I keep getting Unexpected result from your server For all requests.
So I made a query with your script on my keyword tracker account and it worked fine. What keyword/URL combo are you doing when you get the error exactly?
Think I figured it out. When I put http:// in my URL for the site it gives me the error. But just doing straight www.domain.com it works fine. I apologize if this is in directions and/or FAQ
Hmmm... not really sure to be honest... I just added one with full http:// in the URL, and it also worked fine.
Yahoo webhosting does support PHP, although not all functions. When I navigate to the PHP url with the script that I uploaded, the webpage displays: a:1:{s:7:"results";s:4:"9999";} Don't know if it is what is supposed to be? Bing and Yahoo work, but I am still getting the same Google error. Lzr
Make a PHP script and run it on your Yahoo host... script: <?php phpinfo(); ?> PHP: Then you can see what version of PHP your host is running. But yeah... I suspect it's less than 5.2.0 since Yahoo and Bing would work with older version of PHP, but the Google requires json_decode(), which was added to PHP 5.2.0.
