KeyWord Tool: Understanding Local Search Results

    Hey guys,

I have just started using the key word tool.

I want to check search volumes for local UK search terms such as "dentist didsbury" & "dentist manchester".

There are a couple of things I don't quite understand:
The keyword results shown for "didsbury dentist" only list the variables, without the actual "didsbury" keyword. Is this normal for google kw tool to list results this way? ie - if the keyword tool list "24 hour dental" and tells me that there are 30,000 Local Monthly Searches, does this mean there are 30,000 people searching for the term "24 hour dentist DIDSBURY" or just "24 hour dentist" ?

Also, there is a drastic disparity in search volume for terms like "24 hr emergency dentist" (320 LMS) VS. terms like "about dental" and "a dentist a" (both 2.74mil LMS!).
Are these terms also people adding the keyword "didsbury" to their search. I cant imagine this many people searching for these terms as the surrounding are of Manchester is not that big!

One of the things we learn in physics is to look at the answer and see if it makes sense. I agree, it doesn't make sense that
30k people would be searching for Didsbury Dentist per day, unless it was the name of a rock band or sitcom. So, for some
reason G is not limiting the terms to Didsbury.

They want you to overspend. I have keywords that don't come up even once per day in this huge planet, but those are my
customers. I have to keep a sharp eye on my account everyday because often they will throw in a non-relevant, but high
volume keyword and people start clicking on my expensive ad out of curiosity. The other day somebody at G noticed that
if you take the initials of one of my key phrases you get the same acronym as a common PC component, and so they
added that keyword and my expenses went crazy.

Google indeed is a strange beast. Check at the very top of the list; it will be set off slightly from the rest of the search results. This very top entry should have your full entered search term (i.e. "24-hour dentist Didsbury") along with the number of searches. Then it will give the other results. It may be that there are no, or very few searches for your search term.

Let me make it easier for you..
    Go to Keyword Tool
If you want to search an exact phrase like [Dentist Manchester] - Check your left panel and click on Exact Phrase.
This will show you the number of searches for Dentist Manchester only (not for Best Dentist Manchester etc)

In Case if you want to search for 24 hours dentist services or best 24 hours dentist Manchester
Click on Phrase match only and type 24 hours dentist
This will show you number of results for "24 hours dentist".

    :)
