In the SEObook, Aaron Wall highly advocates keyword rich domains. My question: I'm promoting a hotel that's probably had it's domain register 2 years: www.hotelname.com Is it worth me registering www.hotelNameParis.com? The threory being that you get your keywords in all your anchor links? Advice much appreciated thanks! James
No, I wouldn't register hotelNameParis... If you had to register all the domain names which include your keywords, it would cost a lot of money to you without having more traffic... Instead I would go deeper in the SEO tips concerning the content of your website (keywords, links, content...)... Good luck !
Hi there… I have a similar situation, and this is what I am trying to do, I have a resort on an island, and the key phrase I want to go for is the name of the island and then the word resort. I have done fairly well with that but the first page is dominated with a government run place they have about 7 sites with thousands of in coming links from government run travel agents.. (now your wondering where the hell I am!!). My Url is just the name of the resort, so what I have done is buy the exact key phrase I am after, name of island – resort. I am going to put a forum on there for people visiting the island and loads of details about the island tours and trips and that sort of thing… and on there I will push my own resort as well as let people write there own reviews and tips about visiting the island. Hopeful this will get on to the first page as I will be able to get all the other resorts (except the government place) to link to it as well as the travel agents.. for giving them some free advertising ..as I said I’ am nearly on the front page already and now with links from this forum I will hopefully get a little higher and even if I do not I should be able to get the traffic from the key phrase I was after from the forum… that’s the idea… any thoughts on this plan of attack?
If you like you can do this and just 301 redirect the new domain to the current one. This will only benefit you with direct type ins though. My advice, buy the other domain and redirect it (so nobody else buys it and tries to outr ank you for your own phrase) to the other domain. Then try and build up some links with your "your hotel name paris" in the anchor text. That way youll start to rank for that term, and no one can buy the other domain to get the benfit. Hope this helps
I have a few keyword-only URLs that bring in small traffic, and they're probably on page 200 of Google. Names like KeywordKeyword.com or Keyword-Keyword.com seem to somehow get noticed, I don't know how people find them (maybe a direct search?) but it can work.
