Hey everybody, this is my first post but I've been reading on the forum for awhile now. I know this isn't the place, but let me introduce my self, then I will get into my question. My name is Mark I've been marketing online for 4 years now and I've tried every marketing tactic under the sun. I have some experience. But I want to keep it short. So i'll get to you question, its about using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. When I'm doing keyword research on any given niche that I thinking about promoting something in. I've use many tools to help me pick the right keywords. Without making this post into a novel all quickly go over the process I use. 1. Open up: Wordtracker, Google Keyword Tool, Google Home page & Yahoo Site Expoler. 2. Use G Keyword Tool to make a list of Longtail Keywords (3 or more words). Copy them in to a excel spreadsheet. 3. Then I recopy each individual keywords back into, Wordtracker, G KW Tool, Google search in "quotes". Then I copy each of the Numbers, I.E. Searchs per day, Mth & competition sites in to a excel spreadsheet. Then I copy the top 3 websites on a google search and I copy them in to Yahoo site expoler. And I get out many links are pointing to the top 3 websites ranking on Google. As you can see step 3 is the biggest step. Having to do this with 100+ keywords takes a lot of time. Going back and forth to excel to the internet pages. So my question is, Is there a way to use the Functions ability in Microsoft Excel, to have the program automatically go out and retive this info. I hope there are, but for some reason I think I'm just hoping for something that just isn't so. The problem is I don't know much about setting up excel spreadsheets functions. I hope I've made it clear, if I have not, please let me know if you need any clearing up. If there is a way or if you know of a way, i'm happy to offer you some $$$ if you could set it up for me. Any Idea's... Thank you for all your comments.
Your question is really a good one. I think there are tons of tons of keywords software that can do all that work for you automatically. I have not tired any of them yet but i think keyword elite has a function like that. try Googleing it up.
Hi, check out this article on using excel to do keyword research. It may need to be automated a bit more... but it's pretty good Check it out here: http://www.moneymacro.com/money-making-ideas-quick-start-keyword-research-guide/ Hope this helps, Dave
If you're a bit tech savvy, then you may be able to use iMacros to help automate the process. I've used it for automating some very mundane and boring tasks, and for the most part macros work very well. You just have to be sure to check every now and then to make sure that no certain process needs to be updated because it could cause some bumps in the road.
That's a nice semi manual way of doing keywords research, and gets some important information. I don't think I would bother paying to add any more functionality to this, as there is already software out there that will do what you are doing and more. The one thing that I see you are missing is the "strength of competition" which I find critical when deciding if I am going to try rank for a keyword. I use Micro Niche Finder to calculate the strength of competition and some of the other handy stats you will need.
