Keyword Research Software

Anybody give me advice on keyword research software. I've been researching KeywordElite (not available yet) and The Dowser Pro ($97) but want to make sure I make the right decision before shelling out lots of money. Any feedback?

Using Wordtracker and Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool but still finding it almost impossible to find high KEI phrases that give me any hope of generating decent traffic.

    Anybody used any other tools.

    Yours,

    Jim

    Hi Jim,

You really should not look at the KEI figures.. this is no longer an accurate measurement of a keyword and its potential to generate traffic. The relative search counts, number of occurrences along with pages that use that keyword intitle and inanchor, number of competing PPC ads on Google and Yahoo/Overture are far more valuable measurements of a keywords effectiveness.

Other software, this was a good review of all the known keyword tools at the time around 20 different tools were reviewed:

worth a read, covered the dowser and I think also seo elite.

    Cheers

    David,

Thanks for the good advice. I have read a good bit of the review - very useful.

Take your point regards KEI. Looking for competing sites that are well optimised for your keywords is a lot more meaningful than looking at the number of webpages that happen to mention a phrase. Seems so obvious now!

Is there anyway to automate the analysis of the metrics you mention particularly the number of pages that use that keyword intitle and inanchor, number of competing PPC ads? I imagine that even looking at a relatively small list would become very time consuming very quickly.

    Yours,

    Jim

We have a seo toolkit that does that, you will find a link in my sig file, there is a free trial, there are also other services, like:

    nichebot.com
    nichewatch.com

plus other SEO tools I assume would also do this to some extent.

    Cheers

    David,

Thanks again - www.nichewatch.com seems to do the trick.

Presumably I should be looking for keywords with high frequency but where the currently high ranking sites rank have low rankings for keywords intitle and inanchor (i.e poorly optimised) Preferrably if possible the competition should also have relatively low PR and backlinks to make thngs really easy.

If the keyword is also attracting high bids on Overture presumably this would also indicate that the keyword is profitable(?)

Am I on the right track here?

    Jim.

Can anybody tell me where the monthly/daily/hourly search freq data comes from in www.nichebot.com ? Is it derived from Wordtracker? Also sometimes this data is given - is this becaase searches are too low?
