Keyword research question

There's an aspect of keyword research that puzzles me - I've noticed this with Wordtracker, and I believe Keyword Discovery also if I remember correctly.

Example: I just searched on a phrase that has a 100-day count of 76 in Wordtracker, and a Predicted Daily Count of 134. If the 100-day count = the number of times the phrase has appeared in the Wordtracker database over the past 100 days, doesn't that mean the number of times someone entered that phrase into a search engine...? So where does the figure of 134 estimated daily searches come from? These two results seem to be completely contradictory, so I'm confused.

And I realize I should be looking for keywords with low competition in general, but what's a good KEI range and how much importance should one place on it?

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Try to use this keyword tool
If your site is new target a keyword which is semi-competitive.

Don't forget to use the keywords in the search engines yourself and look at the pages that come up. Ad some qualifiers to your keyword and search again and see what comes up.

Just because a keyword appears doesn't mean it's optimized for a particular site.

And estimations are just math formulas. They can be highly targeted in one niche and way off for another. No one rule applies to every case.

I definitely do use qualifiers as you mention, but this point in particular is a darned good one to keep in mind. Thanks.
