Keyword Research/Analysis

I've been using a tool to do some keyword research, but I'm not really sure I know what I'm looking at.

I know I should look for sites that have a low R/S (results to search) ratio. However, does that apply if there are 4.5 million results?

Here are the stats for a keyword I'm thinking about going after. It is a one word keyword and it's fairly popular (I'm not going to say "competitive", because part of my question is what that really means).

    Searches: 134K
    Results: 4.5 Million
    R/S: 34
    Google Ads: 81
    Yahoo Ads: 53

To me, this looks ripe for the picking because R/S under 50 for a word that is searched for that much is hard to find. I have a feeling I should be looking at much more before I put the time in to add a page to my site!

What do you base your keyword research on? What sort of tools do you use?

Here's what I do when deciding whether to go after a certain phrase. This might not be the best time to do this though with Jagger going on, but I take the top 5 results and paste their URL's into uptimebot.com to find out how many backlinks, etc. they have and if I think I can get more than what they have then I go for it.

Are you judging results by searching for that keyword or :

    searching : allintitle:"keyword"

    Makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks for the tip. I'm pretty sure the tool I'm using is just searching for the keyword.

What exactly does allintitle:"keyword" give you? How can I use that?

    Sorry for the ignorant questions.

The allintitle search gave 325K results....

Allintitle shows the sites that have the keyphrase in their <title> tag.
