If we consider the competition of keywords then how much time It'll take to get top positions on Google?

 

Well it depends upon the competition for the keywords. Simple way to evaluate is to analyse the competitor for the keyword you want to rank for. This gives you a broad picture of how much efforts you will have to put into your own website to rank among top competitors. It also depends on other factors like website quality, no of pages present on website etc.
Generally if the competition is medium, it may take around 4-6 months to get top positions in Google.

Sure, search for your keyword on Google and pick up top 3-5 links, those will be your competitors (Except directories, Wikipedia, news sites, Huge brands like Amazon / Ebay etc). Now select one competitor and run them through different tests by using various online SEO tools. Find out how many backlinks they have, do they maintain a Blog, where are they getting their backlinks from, what are the keywords they targeting, how good their website is SEO wise etc,. Generally this will give you a rough idea on how much efforts you will have to put in to surpass your competitor in SERPs.

I've divided the time estimation considering keyword competition...Its Ok?

Below 10 million: Max 2 months
10 - 20 million: 2 - 4 months
20 - 30 million: 4- 6 months
above 30 : 6+

 

In how many article directories we can submit 1 article?

 

i use various tools for competitor analysis, few of them are. SEM rush, Backlinks checker, Ahrefs etc.
your method is correct but don't just consider no. of backlinks as the only deciding factor, try figuring how much quality content does the competitor website has, how famous is he on social media platforms etc,. then calculate how much time will it take for you to attain those levels. I suggest you do this deep analysis only when you are awarded the project, you can just give a rough time frame at the time of initial analysis.

I suggest you not to submit the same article more than once. It'll be considered as duplicate content if you post the same article on various website. Also users won't like to read the same content over and over which they have read someplace else.

Panda were just small updates in search algorithm of Google whereas Hummingbird totally replaced the complete search algorithm of Google.

* Panda update brings down the ranking of websites or penalize which uses over optimization like keyword stuffing etc(mostly black hat techniques)
* Penguin Update mostly penalizes the website with low quality content and is mostly related to low quality backlink building.
* Hummingbird update might just revolutionize the overall search algorithm by understanding semantic search queries which means that now Google doesn't just stress on the keywords in your queries but also focus on understanding the meaning on complete meaning of query and giving you best results.

3) You can understand your website is optimized or not by simply running it through various online tools, if it satisfies most of the criteria then the websites is supposed to be optimized. Check if the website has sufficient amount of relevant backlinks by running it through backlinks checker tool

The last question was not clear enough for me. Do you mean to ask how to identify if your client's website is penalized??

*Domain Authority is a factor which determines your overall website authority, it mainly depends on domain age, domain popularity & domain size.
